Training

The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Illinois (CACI) is dedicated to enhancing the abilities of professionals who work with child abuse victims around the state of Illinois. Therefore, CACI has developed a comprehensive training program that offers information, educational opportunities, and technical assistance to Illinois’ Child Advocacy Centers (CAC). The following list represents some of the areas CACI has addressed through its training opportunities:

Forensic interviewing

CAC Development

CAC Director's Retreat

CAC Management

Multidisciplinary Team Development

Fundraising and Grant Writing

Discipline Specific Discussion Forums

Technical Assistance Manuals/Videos

Mandated Reporter Training/Community Awareness

While CACI continues to expand its training opportunities in these areas, the Chapter developed and implemented the following projects:

1.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and CACI developed a two-day, introductory Forensic Interview Training. The training curriculum, along with a Train-the-Trainers course, was completed in the summer of 2002 and made available to all multidisciplinary team members by the fall of 2002. CACI coordinated trainings held throughout Illinois.

2.

CACI organized a Chapter-sponsored, annual Directors’ Retreat. The two-day retreat offers an opportunity for CAC Directors to come together to share information and ideas.

3.

Discussion forums for Victim Advocates/Case Manager and Forensic Interviewers began in the summer of 2002. CACI holds these regional forums on a regular basis throughout the year. The forums provide an opportunity for networking and, in the case of Forensic Interviewers, peer review.

4. In the fall of 2002, CACI held its first annual New Director’s Training – “CAC 101.” With the rapid expansion of Illinois’ CACs, many new Directors have benefited from the information and networking available during this seminar.
